Aviation college hosts event for prospective students

BATTLE CREEK, Mich.--Western Michigan
University's College of Aviation will hold an open house at the
college's W.K. Kellogg Airport facility from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday,
Nov. 12, for students interested in aviation careers.
During
the event, students interested in WMU's Aviation Flight Science,
Aviation Maintenance Technology and Aviation Science and Administration
degree programs will hear an address by Capt. Dave Powell, dean of the
College of Aviation. Current students in the college will also be
available to answer questions as well as provide tours of the College
of Aviation campus.
In addition students will have a chance
to pose questions about enrollment at WMU to representatives from WMU's
offices of Admissions, Student Financial Aid and Scholarships, and
Residence Life.
Established as a WMU college in 1999, the
College of Aviation has a long and rich aviation tradition, with its
roots reaching back to 1939. The college provides four-year degree
programs in Aircraft Maintenance Technology and Aviation Science and
Administration as well as in Aviation Flight Science, which includes
flight training up to the FAA Commercial Pilots License with Instrument
Rating and Multi-Engine endorsements. The College of Aviation occupies
92,000 square feet on 20 acres at the W.K. Kellogg Airport, a large
general aviation airport with a 10,000-foot-runway. The college's fleet
includes these aircraft: Cirrus SR-20, Piper Super Cub (float plane),
Piper Arrows, Piper Senecas, and Seminoles.
