KALAMAZOO--Original photography taken
by two Western Michigan University students will be on display through
Friday, Nov. 21, in the Richmond Center for Visual Arts.
Amber
Martin of Wyoming, Mich., and Adrienne Marks of Lansing, Mich., both
art majors at WMU, will open their undergraduate thesis exhibitions to
the public free of charge in the Richmond Center's DeVries Gallery.
Richmond Center gallery hours
- Monday through Thursday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Friday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Saturday: noon to 6 p.m.
Martin's
exhibit, "(Un)Defined Identity," is a presentation of digital color
photographs and single-channel video loops. The videos and images are
minimalistic, yet visually stimulating as they define the voice of a
woman addressing her personal experience with infertility as it impacts
her identity.
Marks' exhibit, "Absenses Aves," is a
combination of large format inkjet prints and handcrafted paper birds.
The work is displayed in large dioramas meant to evoke the spirit of a
natural history museum. Based on the artist's concerns for the
environment, the work is intended to draw attention to species that
could disappear if threats to them are not recognized.
