Students show designs at Chicago fashion show

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's "designing women"
are hitting it big on the national fashion scene.
Three WMU fashion students have been selected to showcase
their designs Thursday, April 24, at Chicago Fashion Week
during an event titled "New Generation 2008."
The WMU student designers are Kristina Moellering of Orchard
Lake, Mich., Katie Nolfe of Kalamazoo and Liza Nay of Commerce,
Mich. All three students are members of the Merchandizing Opportunities
Design Association--MODA--a registered student organization in
the WMU Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. Moellering
is pursuing a double major in business management and textile
apparel with an emphasis on fashion design, while both Nay and
Nolf are majoring in textile apparel with emphasis on fashion
design.
MODA is dedicated to designing and producing fashion and fashion
events, as well as philanthropic practices throughout the Kalamazoo
area. Katie Johnson, MODA vice president contacted the executive
fashion director of Chicago Fashion Week, who picked MODA's designers
to participate.
"New Generation 2008" features the fashion designs
of students from Illinois and the surrounding area, giving top
design students an opportunity to showcase their talent and offer
guests a peak at future designers. It all takes place in the
River East Art Center in Chicago as part of Chicago Fashion Week
activities April 21-27.
Chicago Fashion Week was created to manage, unify and modernize
the Windy City's runway shows and provide a platform for designers
to present their collections to worldwide media and buyers. More
